The preparations have begun...

Over the May long weekend and the weekend before, we spent some time on the property cleaning up some of the glass and leftover debris that wasn’t cleared last fall. Huge thank you to our Lake community and the Duvals for having done such a fantastic clean-up then, but smaller bits and pieces were left hidden in the undergrowth and the autumn leaves, and became more visible this spring.

Before long, we are hoping to lay down a few feet of fresh earth over the property from just above the flag pole down to the dock to cover up the debris that we are unable to remove so that the property won’t be a hazard for people to visit and use. The good news is that the tennis court wasn’t affected at all, so everyone is still welcome to come and play.

As you can see, Nancy’s recovery is amazing. Her hands are functioning at about 75% - good enough to manage a wheelbarrow and rake!

We also went over to the cottages of a few of our neighbours to look through some of our personal objects that people were able to salvage after the accident. We were amazed to find pictures, letters, kitchenware, etc. We hope to restore as many of these objects as possible and incorporate them into our new cottage. A huge thank you to all of you who have gone to such great efforts to retrieve and/or restore these treasures.

We are working on our third set of drawings for the new cottage by our wonderful architect, Michael Werleman, and our hope is that it will recapture the spirit of the original house. The Duvals are also on board to begin building this summer. The next step: Nancy and Michael are meeting with Jean-Marc Duval on May 29th at the Lake.

If all goes to plan, we should be breaking ground at the beginning of August.

Lots more updates to come.

xoxo
